Nanopublication — Chromesthetic Translation of the Bb Major Triad

Claim 1: Chromesthetic Translation of the Bb Major Triad

I translate the Bb Major [1] triad through chromesthetic association: purple for Bb, orange for D, and purple-red for F, following my circle of fifths color mapping system. These three pitch-color correspondences form the dominant visual palette of this large-format painting, with purple and orange commanding the composition as broad fields of color while purple-red emerges in the interplay of forms at the center.

Context

The Bb Major triad — Bb, D, F — produces a visual composition anchored in purple and orange. In my chromesthetic mapping system, Bb consistently associates with purple (validated across multiple test batteries with statistical consistency), D with orange, and F with purple-red. These associations derive from my circle of fifths color mapping, where adjacent positions on the circle yield related hues and tritone relationships produce complementary colors.

In this work, the triad's character expresses itself through the scale of the color fields. The deep purple that dominates the right side of the composition and the warm orange that floods the left are not background and figure — they are co-equal presences, the root and major third of the chord occupying the visual space the way they occupy harmonic space. The purple-red of F, the fifth, appears in the central vertical corridor where the geometric forms stack and interlock, mediating between the two dominant hues.

This mapping is consistent with my broader Synesthetic Explorations collection, where each painting in the Research on Harmony series translates a specific triad through the same empirically-validated system. The Bb Major mapping is particularly vivid — the warmth of orange against the depth of purple creates a visual warmth that I experience as intrinsic to this key.
