Nanopublication — Ideamorphic Translation — Circle of Fifths Chromesthetic Mapping

F# Major - Research on Harmony - Variation 6

Claim 3: Ideamorphic Translation — Circle of Fifths Chromesthetic Mapping

I employ ideamorphism to translate F# Major [1] into visual form using my circle-of-fifths chromesthetic mapping: green for F# (root), purple for A# (major third), blue-purple for C# (perfect fifth). The musical triad becomes a visual triad, with harmonic relationships preserved as color relationships.

Context

Ideamorphism describes the systematic transformation of ideas across expressive modalities — in this case, translating a musical triad into visual form. The translation is not arbitrary but follows a defined mapping system based on the circle of fifths, where each pitch class corresponds to a specific hue.

For F# Major, this yields: green for F# (the root), purple for A# (the major third), and blue-purple for C# (the perfect fifth). These three colors constitute the visual triad, just as the three pitches constitute the musical one. The compositional task becomes arranging these mapped colors in ways that preserve or illuminate the harmonic relationships between the chord tones.

The circle of fifths provides a principled basis for the color assignments — adjacent positions on the circle yield related hues, while tritone relationships produce complementary colors. This structure ensures that the visual translation carries forward something of the intervallic logic inherent in the original harmonic material.
