Nanopublication — Piano Voicing Study Origin

A Minor - Research on Harmony - Variations 13

Claim 3: Piano Voicing Study Origin

This work documents voicing explorations at the piano, translating the embodied experience of playing A minor [1] chord variations into visual form as part of my systematic research across all semitones and major/minor keys.

Context

"A Minor - Research on Harmony - Variations 13" emerges from my piano practice, where I explore different voicings of the A minor triad—varying the spacing, inversion, and register of the three chord tones under my hands. The physical act of voicing matters: how I distribute A, C, and E across the keyboard influences the spatial composition of the painting. Root position voicings feel grounded; inversions create different tensions that I translate into asymmetric proportions and spatial relationships.

This piece belongs to a systematic series of nearly 200 artworks exploring triadic research across all twelve semitones in both major and minor modes. Each variation within a key documents a different voicing approach, building a comprehensive visual vocabulary of harmonic relationships. The series constitutes an extended research program in ideamorphism—the systematic translation of musical ideas across expressive modalities while preserving structural invariants.
