Nanopublication — Geometric Reduction - Cat Form through Cubist and Minimalist Simplification

Claim 1: Geometric Reduction - Cat Form through Cubist and Minimalist Simplification

I reduced the cat [1] to essential geometric volumes - columnar body, angular head, minimal detail. The work combines cubist simplification with minimalist restraint. It remains recognizable as cat while formally abstracted.

Context

This sculpture belongs to the "Nature in the City" collection [6], distinct from my chromesthetic musical transliterations. Here the focus is figurative abstraction through geometric reduction.

The cat form compresses into two primary volumes: a stable cylindrical base (body) and an angular triangular element (head). A single circular opening suggests eye or aperture - the minimum marker needed for recognition. No decorative detail. No surface modeling of anatomy. Just volume, angle, opening.

The formal strategy draws from cubist precedent (Brancusi's geometric animals, Picasso's constructed sculptures) while maintaining minimalist discipline. Each element serves structural or recognitional necessity. Nothing excess. The result balances between abstraction and representation - far enough from literal cat to be formally interesting, close enough to remain legible as cat.

The work measures 11×10×27 cm [4], small enough to hold, large enough to read as sculpture rather than maquette. The vertical columnar structure provides stability and presence despite compact dimensions.
