Nanopublication — Chromesthetic Translation of the B Major Triad as Piano Étude
Claim 1: Chromesthetic Translation of the B Major Triad as Piano Étude
I translate the B Major [1] triad through my chromesthetic associations: B is yellow-green, D# is blue-violet, and F# is green. The spread voicing opens the chord across the paper as it opens across the keyboard — yellow-green and green framing the composition with blue-violet occupying the opposite field. This painting is a small piano étude, one iteration in my ongoing practice of translating harmonic relationships into visual form. Working at small scale with acrylic on paper, I treat each variation as I would a musical exercise — direct, unadorned, focused on the essential character of the chord.
Context
The B Major triad splits across two color families in my chromesthetic system: B (yellow-green) and F# (green) belong to the green territory, while D# (blue-violet) pulls toward the purple end of the spectrum. This gives the chord a natural two-part palette — greens and violet — rather than the monochromatic quality some triads produce. The painting's composition reflects this division: the yellow-green and green forms anchor one side while the blue-violet field claims the other, with the geometric interplay between them enacting the harmonic relationship.
As a Variation 10 in the B Major series, this small-format study continues an extended exploration of the same chord across different compositions. Each variation is a study — a single pass at the triad's visual character, the way a pianist might play the same chord progression each morning as part of daily practice. The geometric simplicity is intentional: just as a spread voicing opens up the triad across the keyboard, here the colors open across the surface, each finding room to breathe.
